Our client, an established construction company based in Kingston, is seeking a detail-oriented Technical Officer to oversee day-to-day site operations and ensure works are delivered to the required quality, safety and contractual standards. The successful candidate will monitor workmanship and materials, verify that works follow approved drawings and specifications, and coordinate foremen and workers to keep tasks on schedule. Reporting to the Engineer and Project Manager, the role also covers accurate site records, progress reports, and supporting documentation for payment claims. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on construction professional with strong technical knowledge and sound judgement on site.
- Responsibilities/Duties
Responsibilities:
- Check that works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and site instructions.
- Monitor workmanship and materials, identify defects and follow up on corrective works.
- Prepare site inspection reports, progress updates and accurate records of work completed.
- Support the preparation of payment claims through site measurements, verification of completed works and supporting documentation.
- Monitor site safety and compliance with project requirements, and promptly report unsafe practices.
- Oversee foremen and workers to ensure tasks are properly coordinated and completed to the required standard.
- Report to the Engineer and Project Manager on progress, site issues and matters requiring instructions or approval.
- Monitor progress against the programme of works and flag delays, material shortages and other constraints.
- Maintain records of site instructions, variations, deliveries and photographs.
- Attend site meetings and follow up on assigned actions
- Skills & Certifications
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma in Construction, Building Technology or a related field; or relevant HEART/NSTA Trust construction certification at Level 3 or above
- Experience in construction supervision, site inspections and reporting.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, site safety and quality requirements.
- Strong communication, organisation and computer skills.
- Experience with site measurements and payment claims would be an asset.
