The Senior Accounting Clerk (Payroll & Payables) is responsible for managing the company’s payroll processing and overseeing accounts payable functions, including both local and foreign vendor payments. This role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time, while maintaining strong financial controls and compliance with Jamaican labour laws and international payment requirements.

Payroll Processing

  • Prepare and process monthly payroll in compliance with Jamaican labour laws and company policy.
  • Ensure accuracy in salary calculations, statutory deductions and benefits.
  • Maintain payroll records and respond to employee payroll queries.
  • Liaise with HR to ensure employee data is updated for payroll purposes.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management and auditors.

Accounts Payable (Local & Foreign)

  • Process invoices and ensure timely payments to local and international suppliers.
  • Verify accuracy of invoices against purchase orders and contracts.
  • Prepare payment schedules and reconcile supplier accounts.
  • Manage foreign currency transactions and liaise with banks for wire transfers.
  • Monitor aging reports and resolve discrepancies with vendors.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, internal controls, and Jamaican accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly reports on payroll and payables for management review.
  • Support external and internal audits by providing documentation and reconciliations.

General Accounting Support

  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Collaborate with other accounting clerks to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in accounting, with strong exposure to payroll and payables.
  • Experience handling foreign currency transactions is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/payroll software.
  • Strong knowledge of Jamaican payroll regulations, statutory deductions, and accounting principles.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Analytical thinking and problem‑solving ability.
  • Integrity and adherence to ethical accounting practices.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with employees, suppliers, and banks.
