- Job Overview
Responsible for ensuring ready-mix concrete meets set standards of quality, reliability and performance. Test and inspect concrete and aggregates during manufacturing using a variety of testing devices. To design new concrete mixes and modify or remedy old concrete mixes to meet current specifications.
- Responsibilities/Duties
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and performs physical tests on laboratory mixes concrete batches such as slump, entrained air, unit weight, time of setting, temperature and compressive strength.
- Create concrete mix design as per customer specification.
- Performs physical tests on ready-mix concrete, aggregates such as gradations, and sand equivalency on a specific quantity.
- Conducts visual inspection of concrete in the plant and on-site to determine quality and pourability.
- Partners with sales, production operations and dispatch to provide job site support and ensure that concrete meets customers’ specifications.
- Entails setting and implementing internal/external requirements to ensure the concrete mix trials perform to customer expectations.
- Conduct sampling of concrete on site as delivered by the company.
- Recording and reporting to management the results of tests and quality checks done on-site and in the laboratory.
- Making consolidated or cooperative decisions with production managers regarding the suitability of concrete for pouring.
- To furnish reports of quality control data for data entry.
- To transfer and do data entry of quality control information for reporting to clients.
- To assist in the conducting of concrete trial mixes.
- To conduct as necessary, timely collection of concrete cubes to facilitate curing and testing per the relevant standards.
- To facilitate sampling, inspection and testing of all concrete constituent materials, that is aggregates, cement, water and admixtures to determine suitability for use
- Investigate and report complaints on quantity, quality or performance.
- To perform any laboratory and or field tests as instructed by the supervisor.

- Skills & Certifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
- At least 3 years experience in the concrete or related industry.
- Leadership and management skills to guide and coach employees both direct and indirect.
- Strong track record for accuracy and consistency.
- Ability to set performance standards for direct reports.
- Strong demonstrated qualitative and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, multi-task and work well both independently and as a member of a team.
- Strict attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Technology/Civil Engineering or related field.
- Operational knowledge – must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ready-mix concrete, quality control and systems.
- Working Conditions
Working Conditions:
- Ability and willingness to meet the requirements of the role, extremely early start times, long hours during large pours and physical demands such as climbing, bending, stooping and lifting heavy objects.
- The role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, heat, elevated noise levels and dusty conditions.
- Must be willing to work on weekends.
